If you read our section on Blackjack Insurance you will have noted how this is a sucker bet and should be avoided at all costs,
and you are about to find out about another such bad bet and that is accepting even money for your Blackjack hand.
Some Blackjack variants will call for the Dealer to offer you a payout of even money on your wager when you have a Blackjack and the Dealer is showing an Ace. Should you accept
then the Dealer will give you the even money payout and remove your cards from play before he reveals his hand.
Now on the face of it this payout may seem reasonable however mathematically and strategically you are better declining this payout and taking your chances. So never
be tempted to take this even money payout.
Even Money Blackjack Variants
There are some Blackjack variants that pay even money as standard whenever you get a Blackjack hand (Ace and a Ten), whilst on first inspection you may feel these are horrendous odds
for the best hand you can have, however these game have some beneficial rules to counter this payout.
Super Fun 21 is one such game, get yourself a Blackjack and you get paid at even money, however to make this payout acceptable certain new rules come into play.
For example if you get a Blackjack and the Dealer has a Blackjack then instead of the game being a push the player automatically wins such hands.
Also should you get a Blackjack in the suit of Diamonds then you automatically win and get an enhanced payout of 2-1!
Other player beneficial rules include, should you get a hand totalling 20 with 6 or more card then this hand will always win, and should you get a hand totalling 21 with 6 or
more cards then this is an instant winner and pays 2-1!
So as you can see getting paid even money on a Blackjack hand isn't that bad after all, but only when the game has additional rules to make up for this short fall.
Even Money Over/Under Bet
Some casinos also offer an even money paying side wager that players can make. To win this bet you simply have to predict whether your first two cards dealt are under 13 or over 13 in total.
During this wager the Aces are all counted as one. This side bet is however very beneficial for the house as the house edge is massive, and to give you an idea of this we have listed the
house edge for this bet based on various decks.
On a single deck game the house edge on the over 13 wager is 6.79% and on the under 13 wager it is 10.11%.
On a two deck game the house edge on the over 13 wager is 6.65% and on the under 13 wager it is 10.08%.
On a four deck game the house edge on the over 13 wager is 6.58% and on the under 13 wager it is 10.07%.
On a six deck game the house edge on the over 13 wager is 6.55% and on the under 13 wager it is 10.07%.
On an eight deck game the House Edge on the over 13 wager is 6.54% and on the under 13 wager it is 10.06%.
