Vegas Downtown Blackjack gained its name as it is loosely based around the variant of Blackjack that can be found in the Downtown area of Las Vegas.
Savvy players flock to all of the venues in this location as they know they are going to get low stake Blackjack games along with very liberal rules, and often much better paybacks.
Number Of Decks:
Vegas Downtown Blackjack uses two regular decks of playing cards.
Splitting Rules:
You can Split any two cards that either are the same i.e. 2 x 7's or any two cards that have the same value i.e. a King and a Jack, Queen and a Ten, Ten and a King etc.
You can split a hand up to three times and by doing so you could be playing with a maximum of four separate hands. Split Aces will get dealt just one card and then the
hand will stand.
Doubling Down Rules:
You can Double Down on any two cards, and this will require you placing another wager equal to your initial bet.
You can also Double Down after a Split.
Dealer Play:
The Dealer will hit a soft 17 hand. Being a hole card game then expect to see the Dealer checking for Blackjack when he is holding a Ten or an Ace.
If he has, then he will reveal his hand and the game will be brought to its conclusion.
If you are playing online then all cards will be shuffled before a new game commences, land based casinos usually only shuffle the deck when they are 2/3 the way through a shoe.
Payout and House Edge:
A Blackjack hand pays 3 to 2, and a winning Insurance bet pays 2-1.

Vegas Downtown Blackjack - Hint and Tips
You should always stand if you get either 17+, a soft 20 or a pair of Tens.
You should always double a hand worth eleven irrespective of what the Dealer is holding.
If you are dealt a pair of Aces then always split them.
As with all Insurance offered Blackjack games you should always decline it, as in this two deck game the house edge on the Insurance bet alone is
6.796%.
The only time you should hit a pair of 5's is when the Dealer is showing ten or eleven,
if he is holding anything else then you should double down.

This variant of Blackjack can be found in the gaming suite of any Microgaming powered online casino, they have two versions, the first is their original version
which dates back to their "thumper" software and recently they added their Gold Series version, which give player better graphics, sounds and game play.
